I Thought I Had Nothing to Say, but It Turns Out that there's Lots!

I started out thinking that I had nothing to say today, but it turns out I was wrong.

The fog colored yarn (Merino Style) from Knit Picks came yesterday, and last night I cast on for a copy of Hermione's grey hat. So far, I've gotten four inches of it done, and will probably finish it tonight unless I run into a snag. I'm designing it as I go along, so there are no guarantees.

This is how far I've gotten:

This is what it looks like in the only photo I've been able to find:

I wish they'd shown the top of the hat. I originally just assumed that it all came together at the top like hats like that usually do. The thought struck me today that from what I can see, it's possible it's got a pom pom on top! But, of course, there's no way to tell!

The lace holes will look bigger when it's actually on someone's head, and the 1x1 rib will look more like the photo when it's stretched out.

I have to say that I absolutely love Merino Style! It may be just the most wonderful yarn available that you don't have to spin yourself. And it's not expensive, either. If this turns out well, I'll publish the instructions! I'm writing them down as I go along.

Yes, I know there are instruction on Ravelry, but that one was intended for a child, and I don't think it matches the photo as well as I'd like. Plus I'm writing this to fit an adult, namely, me. Actually, it's not impossible that there will be enough yarn left over to make another one. I ordered more than I thought it would take.

We'll see.

Terry Gilliam is doing a new movie called The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus! If you click here, you can scroll down the page and find some information about it.

It sounds amazing!

I ran across information about a new series coming over from England. It'll be on BBC in America, of course, and it's called Being Human. Click on the link and read the article. I think I'm going to love it!

Timeline will be on the SciFi Channel tomorrow night!

Have a great evening!

Addition:

My sister sent this to me today in an email:

Quote of the day:

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater.

If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby.

If you give her a house, she'll give you a home.

If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal.

If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart.

She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her.

So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Due to the fun I plan to have tomorrow, I doubt that I will get a chance to post tomorrow, so I want to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving now.

More than a week ago, I got a notice that there was a package for me, and when I went to pick it up, I was told there were actually two packages. Then the person could only find one, and thought he was mistaken.

Well, after waiting and waiting for my Knit Picks order, (and judging by past performance, they're pretty quick), I finally asked if there was a package for me even though I hadn't gotten a notice.

It turns out that my package had been sitting there for over a week!

So, here's part of it. That's the black Swish DK wool yarn for a hood for John M, and some of the same in blue/lavender for mitts for another Christmas present. The yarn is yummy, and, as you can see, I managed to make the first mitt last night.

Also, (not in the photo) I got some 47 inch cables for my Options kit, and a delightful book called Knockdown Knits. I bought it because I liked the star shaped bag, plus the hat with a big star on it. Written for and by roller derby skaters, it's fun. It's a great book for active people because it has a couple of patterns for slings for injured arms and one to hold a bag of frozen peas for your knee. Plus lots of other fun knits.

A new Pushing Daisies will be on tonight. I got the news this week that it will be canceled along with Eli Stone and I'm sad. I fired off notes to the network protesting both.

Later tonight (actually tomorrow morning at 1:30 here), Timeline will be on the SciFi channel according to the electronic TV Guide that Comcast puts out. According to the SciFi Channel, it will not be on. Check your schedules.

And fibermom mentioned that she wanted to see the Eloise Movies, so I wanted to let here know that they will be on ABC Family on Saturday. Check schedules!

We've been having dull, overcast weather all this month. I ran over to the library to pick up the books they were holding for me in the grey, cold-looking overcast, and as soon as I got back the sun came out. Right now, the sun has just set but it's still lighting up the sky and making everything look very pretty.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Dollhouse

Here is my towel from earlier today, when it was 14 inches long. I will add 4 more inches, and then I will do about 3 inches of border and bind off.

I originally thought I wanted a towel that was 30 x 40, but after seeing how big 30 inches is, I changed my mind to 20 x 30.

Actually, my gauge is a little off so it will be 20 x 32. But that's the nice thing about towels. Precise size isn't essential.

The big news today is something I found on Ravelry.

Joss Whedon is working on a new series. For fans of Firefly and Buffy, that's a cause for celebration.

The new series will be called Dollhouse (more info here), and stars Eliza Dushku as the heroine, Echo. Her IMdB page shows what we all know, that she was Tru in Tru Calling, and Faith in Buffy. She was also the daughter in True Lies (one of my favorite movies).

The SciFi channel is having all three Indiana Jones movies both Saturday and Sunday. Right before the series on Saturday, they're showing Timeline, which is an excellent movie, but an even better book.

Timeline, the movie bears little resemblance to Timeline, the book. You have to adjust your mind-set if you want to watch both of them.

After the three Jones movies on Sunday, they'll be showing Mystery of the Crystal Skulls, which seems to be (judging by the trailers), a bit about the actual archeology that the new movie is based on.

And Holly has notified me that the Cartoon Network will be showing the Family Guy episode about Star Wars on Sunday evening, followed by Robot Chicken, which is also a Star Wars episode. She says both are hilarious.

And, of course, Sarah Jane, and Doctor Who will both be on SciFi tonight, at the same time as the season finales of Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight.

And Prince Caspian opens in theaters today!

What an exciting weekend!

This was intended to be mostly a knitting blog, but the science fiction people have overwhelmed me this weekend.

Have a fun one!
