Dark Mark Scarf

Yes, prepare to be bored with yet another dark mark scarf that I've made

I tried to take a photo of this that would show just the stripes, but the mark on this one just doesn't want to disappear. In a lot of ways, it's the best one I've made so far.

This one is for someone else. At some point (maybe now, so I'll have it for the movie opening) I'm going to make another one for me.

Last weekend, on Sunday, Eli Stone was listed on the Digital TV Guide. I told the DVR to record it, and it wasn't until last night that I got around to watching it and discovered that it's a new episode! 

That's right, Eli Stone fans, it's back!

The network said that they were absolutely, positively canceling it, so I didn't even check to see that it was new. When I watched it, at first I thought it was an episode I'd missed, but no, it's brand new!

So, don't miss it this week. Oh, I'm so happy!

I realize that this isn't a science fiction show, but Better off Ted is back tonight on ABC, and I can't wait!

For those of you who don't know, Ted works  for a huge corporation, Veridian Dynamics, which is everyone's worst nightmare of big business. The things the company does are beyond belief. One of the highlights of the show each week, is a commercial for Veridian Dynamics, which the company shows off how it has, once again managed to react totally inappropriately to reality with screamingly funny results.

Finished Objects 2008 Part One

I noticed that some other people are posting year-end photos of what they've accomplished knittin-wise during the past year, and it seemed like a good way to make myself feel better, even if nobody else cares.

So, here's the beginning of what I did this year, not necessarily in chronological order.

Multicolored watch cap.

Cotton towel for Towel Day.

Dickie. This was actually finished around the beginning of the year, possibly last year in December, so it might be cheating.

Feather and Fan Socks. I made four pair of these.

Tin Man will be on the SciFi Channel tonight. There won't be much science fiction competition for it.

Tomorrow, the SciFi Channel will be showing Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King starting at 8:00 am (here). It's the story of Sigfried and Brunhilde, it's a classic, and this version is very well done. Worth watching if you haven't seen it, and maybe even if you have.

There will also be a new Eli Stone and a new Leverage. Check your listings!

I Love Etsy!

I made my first sale on Etsy today! I was beginning to think that actually selling things on Etsy was a myth. Anyway, one of my wimple and hood patterns was ordered.

I'll be meeting the woman who is commissioning me to knit Christmas stockings for her tonight. She'll have a sample stocking, pattern(s) and money. I can't wait to get started so I can finish and have some extra money for Christmas (if I can finish it all by then).

In knitting news, I've gotten up to the neck on John M's hood, and am about to start the face opening. Not much to see, there, just a little longer than it was yesterday. It'll start looking different tomorrow.

I have lots of ends to darn in on various projects, so, hopefully, I'll get a lot of that finished today.

The project for today is moving my computer and a table, etc., and getting my new printer a place to live and getting everything all hooked up successfully.

I need to get off the computer so I can start disconnecting things and moving them. I just moved, and my back wasn't happy with it. Maybe not today. I'll try for it, though.

The rest of the week will be busy. Tomorrow, I have some heavy-duty shopping to do. My once-a-month-stock-up-for-the-whole-month trip to WalMart. It should be fun but exhausting.

On Thursday, I have a dental appointment. He's going to do everything on the left side of my mouth (while ignoring the most pressing work, which he plans to do last). He'll be removing a number of fillings and replacing them with "composite material." He won't be replacing all the amalgam, but that side of my mouth should look less like a silver mine. It may, ultimately, help with some of my health problems, too. At least I'll have less mercury leaking into my mouth all the time.

I'm never happy about going to the dentist, but he'll be working in the spot that other dentists haven't been able to get numb, so there's a high probability that he'll be drilling on my teeth with no anaesthetic. That's what happened before and it was so much fun!

So, the rest of the day may be spent in bed sleeping it off.

There are so many things I want to do on Friday that I just can't decide at this point, but unless I feel a lot worse than I expect (from the dentist visit), I'll be busy then, too. Unless I ask Holly to come do something with me and do it all on Friday instead. Then again, I may do stuff on Friday and ask Holly for help.

I pointed out that she could do some Christmas shopping while we were out, and she said she's doing all her Christmas shopping on line and having stuff shipped directly to the people she's getting them for. 

What a simple approach to Christmas shopping!

And why didn't I think of that?

Holly said my Christmas presents that she sent to Kyle had arrived. She described on the phone the conversation she had with Kyle when it arrived. Kyle didn't think the green and black scarf was anything special. Holly told her to put it on and look down, and it blew her mind when she could see the dark mark! She got all excited, and started yelling for Bob to come and see it! It's always nice when you can amaze your granddaughter.

We have a new Fringe tonight and a new The Mentalist, followed by a new Eli Stone.

I stumbled across a show I've never heard of before on Saturday, and it will be on again this Saturday. The episode I saw was good, but it remains to be seen if it will be one of the great ones. It's sword and sorcery, and seems good for that genre. It's called Legend of the Seeker, and is on at 7:30 on the CW (here). Check local listings and check it out.

TNT is having a new show on, Leverage, starting Saturday. It's sort of a modern-day, high tech Robin Hood story. The trailers look good. Check listings.

Yesterday was one of the few days we've had in a long while that was sunny and beautiful. I got a chance to walk around for a while, and went over to MacDonalds to redeem one of the coupons they sent me. I got a "Southern Chicken Sandwich" and a senior Coke for 37 cents!

It was fun walking around in the sun for a change.

Celtic Troubles

What was wrong with the fronts to the Celtic sweater was that I counted different amounts of stitches from the front to start each pocket.

So, the back and one pocket section have been ripped out.

I can't bear to take photos of disaster, so let your imagination run amok thinking about it. I'm sure you get the picture. I frogged more than two whole skeins of yarn, so that's close to 500 yards. As I said, I can't bear to take photos of the debacle.

It's going to be pretty when it's done, though. I'm much happier with the revised knot that I'm going to put on the side than I was with the first one.

All the information, computer files, etc., have been shipped off to the people who are actually going to make the DVDs for Volume One of Steve Canyon. John and I are experiencing huge amounts of relief. We'll feel that until tomorrow, when we'll probably start over with Volume Two.

For tonight, we have Fringe and The Mentalist on at the same time on Fox and CBS, respectively, followed by Eli Stone on ABC.

Starting at Midnight, the History Channel has a couple of interesting episodes of The Universe, the first about The Most Dangerous Place in the Universe (cosmic hot spots), and one of my favorites, Parallel Universes. That last episode just fills me with so many ideas I feel like I'm going to explode.

I'm still catching up on the programs I missed (due to phone calls and deciphering the problem with the sweater and ripping it out, picking up stitches, etc.), but recorded from last night.

Happy Veterans Day!

For some reason, when I went to sleep last night, I really checked out. Usually I wake up at least three times and get a drink/run to the bathroom/whatever, and then go back to sleep. I barely woke up at 7 am, and then was out cold until 1 pm. But I feel much better than I have for a while. It really helped me get over all the walking this past weekend.

When I woke, I checked my phone and found a message from John. There was one more tiny change on the DVD art. Apparently, when you have something round and flat, it's called a disK. Unless it's a DVD. Then, it's called a disC. So all the PDFs had to be done over again and uploaded again, which is very time consuming, even though the actual change only took a couple of minutes.

But it's really done! 

And if you've been able to keep track of how many times I've said that and been wrong, you're better than me.

Now, to get back to the topic of yesterday which was the Stitches East trip!

Actually, the part that's left, Sunday, didn't include Stitches, but the first photo is from Saturday, of a ship in dock next to the Tourist Center.

After a big breakfast, we went to the B&O Railroad Museum,  as you can easily see from the photo below.

We had a ride on one of the trains, and walked around the museum, which is mostly in the old roundhouse.

After the train ride, we stopped to check out the model railroad in back of the roundhouse.

And here's Lynn walking around the grounds.

I think mostly that we just didn't want to say goodbye to each other, but we did.

So, all in all, it was a wonderful trip!

Wow! As usual on Monday night, there was a boatload of good stuff on TV! There's still stuff on my DVR that I haven't watched.

Tonight, we have Fringe (it's NEW!) and The Mentalist (naturally, on at the same time), followed by Eli Stone! Check your TV guide.

Marek Fire

This was the view from my window yesterday evening.

That's one thing I love about this place: the sunsets!

Inspection of the apartment was early today. They started at 1 pm, and they got to my apartment and were through (I passed) in about 5 minutes before 1:30.

Here's something to get you in the mood for my trip to the Renfair on Saturday. We will be there on the next-to-the-last day. After Sunday, it will be over for this year.

I love this little cottage at the Renfair, and if it were possible, I'd like to live there. If I ever become a multi-millionaire in the lottery, I'm going to have one of these built for me. Or maybe a copy of the house I lived in when I lived in France. That house was a dead ringer for Snow White's cottage, except that it had a slate roof instead of thatch.

Since I can't do any of that, I have made this photo my desktop photo. It's very scenic.

I'm still worried about John and the forest fire. They are calling the one near him the Marek fire. The firefighters have gotten close to having the fire under control and on the way out, but it's not over yet. The essentials are packed into two cars in case of evacuation, but I hope they don't have to do that. So far, it's taken out one home and an entire trailer park, and some other areas have been evacuated. Read Crazy Aunt Purl's take on Fire Season.

I have a hard time not crying when I read about it.

The Start of the Tour de Fleece

Here it is on the first day of the Tour de Fleece (check button in the sidebar) and I haven't spun yet.

I did, however, take a photo of the progress I'd made before starting, so all I have to do is spin a bit this evening and I'm OK.

I finished two mitts, and plan to make a third, but I've revised my opinion of what to do with the other two balls of Risata in Marionberry. I plan to make socks. Actually, it's more than a plan, since I've finished turning the heel and the gusset of the first one. I'm now on the straight-away to the toe. These socks will be plain old 2x2 rib for the leg and the top of the foot. Expect photos tomorrow and a pattern soon.

I hope you've been getting a chance to watch the Star Wars movies on Spike and the Harry Potter movies on Family this weekend.

In about an hour, Eli Stone will be on. If all goes well, that is. The pilot was scheduled for last Saturday, and it never showed. Instead, we got a documentary on NASCAR racing. What a disappointment!

I watched for the planetary alignment last night, but we've had a heavy cloud cover for the last two nights. Early this evening, the clouds started breaking up, but they still cover most of the sky, so it'll be possible that I might see it tonight, but more likely I won't.

SF Update!

Well, Eli Stone was a bust this weekend. The pilot episode was scheduled, but they showed something about NASCAR instead. I was disappointed. It's beginning to look like I'll never get to see the pilot. It is scheduled for next Saturday evening. We'll see if it's on.

But there is other science-fiction-on-TV news out there!

Special Unit 2 will be on the SciFi daily rotation schedule tomorrow, and Tru Calling will be on the daytime schedule Wednesday.

As far as evening Science Fiction goes, Supernatural seems to be the highlight of the week, with a rerun on Thursday.

Oh well, some shows will be returning in July, although not much.

My Risata Marionberry socks have metamorphed into a pair of mitts and a beret. I've transcribed Crazy Aunt Purl's beret pattern from bulky to fingering yarn. If it works out well, you'll get photos and a pattern. Not that I really expect anyone to want to knit a beret in fingering weight yarn. I'm the only one dedicated enough to do that.

In the meantime, I finally managed to get all the information I need for the IRS (I think I have it all), and need to spend some time filling out forms and getting them xeroxed (I don't trust them not to lose them) and mailed off.
